Health is a bit of a tricky mistress, and when it comes to eating healthy, there are different things that work for some people but dont work for others. However, what we can all agree on are the things that are unhealthy right?
There seems to be quite some confusion about what is and isn’t healthy, especially among those who are first beginning their journeys to a healthy lifestyle.
So to help get you on the right track, here are 5 foods that YOU think are healthy but really aren’t!
Ah the big behemoth itself! Many regard juice as being one of the healthiest things that you can drink just because it comes from fruit!
This assumption is wrong! wrong! wrong! Most juices you can buy in the store are heavily processed, iffy on vitamins and minerals, and have loads of added sugars!
But what about natural juice straight from the fruit? The Answer? Not much better, while you still are getting all of the vitamins and minerals, the juicing process removes all of the dietary fiber. This meaning the sugar is absorbed very fast by your body and can actually lead to weight gain and insulin spikes.
2. Low Fat Foods
The saddest part about this is the amount of love and credibility people give low fat items such as Yogurt and 2 percent milk. This is a large misconception and can be harmful to your health, even leading to more weight gain.
Of course it is very good to cut out fats like Saturated Fats and Trans Fats, it is extremely important that you get many healthy fats in your diet from things like meat, nuts, fish, etc.
Fat is extremely important for brain health and growth and it will keep you fuller for longer, meals high in fats will keep you satisfied for a long time after eating and help prevent binge eating.
MORE FAT DOES NOT EQUAL MORE BODY FAT, This misconception is old and dated, get over it.
3. Protein Bars
Many regard protein bars as the Holy Grail of getting “Swole” But the short and simple truth is that most protein bars are loaded with Sugar, Preservatives, Trans Fats, and other harmful compounds and fillers.
Most Protein bars are basically candy bars with a little extra protein.
If you want reliable protein bars, I will give you two recommendations!

4. Multigrain Bread
Most multigrain breads only contain simple carbs and spike your blood sugar. All that these breads advertise is the fact that they contain lots of grains. But you know nothing about their grade or refinement or processing .
Most procedures used to refine multigrain bread also remove all the fiber and pack the bread full of sugars leading the bread to more so promote weight gain rather than weight loss.
5. Smart Cereal
Cereals that are made by yourself with natural ingredients such as the one shown in the picture above, are completely okay and can actually be quite good for you. It is those Special K Protein cereals or “Whole Grain” cereals that we are on the lookout for.
While these cereals advertise that they are healthy, they are often the complete opposite. These cereals are packed with refined sugars, simple carbohydrates, and processed grains that spike your insulin, promote weight gain, and leave you feeling hungry 10 minutes later.
Okay, so maybe nutrition isn’t as black and white as you once thought it was. But you are now one step… or 5 steps closer to nailing your diet! It is important to remember that things are not always as they seem and while foods may seem healthy at first glance, it can often be the case that they are more unhealthy than your favorite bag of chips!
